Charging Your Vape Batteries Safely

Lithium-ion cells are reliable when treated correctly. A few straightforward habits keep things safe and extend your battery life considerably.

• Use a charger rated for lithium-ion or IMR chemistry. Not all chargers handle both, so check before you buy.
• Don’t exceed your battery’s maximum charge current. The rating is usually printed on the cell wrap. If it says 1A max, don’t run it at 2A to save time.
• Avoid leaving lithium-ion batteries charging for long periods unattended, especially overnight. Most quality chargers cut off automatically when the cell is full, but it’s still good practice.
• If a battery shows any sign of damage, swelling or a torn wrap, retire it. A bay charger’s LCD will often show an abnormal voltage reading before visible damage appears, which is another reason the display is worth having.
